Tamarapa Lloyd is from Ngati Tuwharetoa (Ngati Turumakina) and Te Arawa (Ngati Whakaue).
Tamarapa joins KAHUI LEGAL after six years as general counsel at Te Ohu Kai Moana Trustee Limited (the Maori Fisheries Trust) that has been responsible for transferring $450 million worth fisheries assets to the 57 recognised fishing iwi.
Tamarapa’s extensive knowledge of the Maori Fisheries Act 2004 and He Kawai Amokura (the allocation Model) sees him regularly consulting clients on fisheries management, coastal and marine issues, government policy requirements and natural resource management.
As a recognised expert of indigenous fisheries management, he has, and continues to advise international indigenous communities on indigenous fisheries.
Tamarapa has provided advice to clients on commercial matters, Crown negotiations, Treaty of Waitangi claims, governance and commercial structures and asset management for Maori organisations.
He has a passion for Maori development recently moving back to the Bay of Plenty and is also the General Manager of Ngati Whakaue Tribal Lands Incorporation that has interests in farming, forestry, tourism and property.
This year Tamarapa was the government appointee on the Bay Of Plenty District Health Board.
He says Maori development, whether it is through assets or improving the health and wellbeing of people, has always interested him.
