New NZ Petroleum and Minerals Unit within MED
On 2 May, a new business unit, New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals, was set up to replace Crown Minerals, in the management of the petroleum and minerals estate on behalf of the Crown. New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals will remain within the Ministry of Economic Development, but staff numbers are expected to increase from around 40 to around 70 over time. The review of agency capability which resulted in the new unit was one of seven action points announced in the Petroleum Action Plan in November 2009.
As a part of the new business Unit, a Manager Iwi Liaisons Role has been developed. The Manager Iwi Liaisons will be responsible for providing advice and actively engaging, liaising, developing and managing relationships with Iwi and other Iwi/Maori organisations. Applications closed on the 12th of August.
