Tawheta joined Kāhui Legal in November 2020 as a Summer Clerk.  He remained with the firm as a Law Clerk during 2021 while completing his studies and professionals.  Tawheta was admitted as a solicitor and barrister of the High Court in March 2022.

Tawheta is committed to a career where the law is a pivotal tool in helping Māori.  He has worked on a number of commercial, criminal and Māori land matters, and appreciates working across the diverse practice areas that Kāhui Legal offers.

Tawheta has a particular interest in criminal law, an area in which Māori have long been over-represented, as well as Treaty of Waitangi and tikanga Māori developments. Tawheta believes te ao Māori holds the key to a constitution that can create a society where our people will thrive.
